Series 62 Cadillac Models & History 1962
WithGM settling into a styling groove, Cadillac’s ’62s were basically toned-down ’61s. Highlights included still-lower fins, front-fender cornering lights as a new option, a somewhat tamer grille, and backup/turn/stop lights combined behind a single white lens. Four-window sedans received
more orthodox rooflines but still included a pair of short-deck variants, which were now named Series 62 Town Sedan and DeVille Park Avenue. A new braking system with dual master cylinder and separate front and rear hydraulic lines appeared, a portent of the future. Model-year output rose to nearly 161,000, up some 23,000 over ’61.
- A mild facelift characterized Cadillac styling trends for 1962.
- A flatter grille with a thicker horizontal center bar and more delicate cross-hatched insert appeared.
- Ribbed chrome trim panels, seen ahead of the front wheel housings in 1961, were now replaced with cornering lamps and front fender model and series identification badges were eliminated.
- More massive front bumper end pieces appeared and housed rectangular parking lamps.
- At the rear, taillamps were now housed in vertical nacelles designed with an angled peak at the center.
- On Series 6200 models a vertically ribbed rear beauty panel appeared on the deck lid latch panel.
- Cadillac script also appeared on the lower left side of the radiator grille.
- The short-deck town Sedan was switched to the base 6200 lineup, while a similar model was still part of the DeVille sub-series.
- Standard equipment on 6200 models included:
- power brakes
- power steering
- automatic transmission
- dual backup lamps
- windshield washer and dual speed wipers
- wheel discs
- fender skirts
- remote control outside rear view mirror
- left vanity mirror
- oil filter
- five tubeless blackwall tires
- heater and defroster
- front cornering lamps
